If we do not choose God now, then we will not choose him in the end either.  We must submit ourselves to God.  Though it sounds scary and as if we will lose controll of our lives, truly it is the safest way to be!  God is perfect and knows everything and loves us.  He wants and knows what is best for us.  He can see things that we cannot and therefore, trusting Him to guide our lives is really a much safer and wiser thing to do.  It may seem hard, but it is the only guarantee that we will end up as the person he knows we can become!
